Reading Between the Wines
Posted by KatyTonight was so fun! I enjoyed a night at a great fundraising event tonight with my hubby and some of his coworkers!
For lunch I had a delicious sandwich!

On toasted whole wheat I layered:
- Arugula
- Tomatoes
- Colby jack cheese
- Sliced turkey
- Sun-dried tomatoes
- Romaine
- Spicy mustard
I also had a bowl of fruit salad with kiwi, banana, pineapple, and strawberries! Yum!

De-lish. I was craving an epic sandwich and this was it!

I then headed over to meet Megan and attempt to help her with website stuff.
I snacked on some Reeses Pieces she offered me..

Along with the other half of this lemon Larabar.

When trying to import we realized the file for her blog was too large! If you have any html knowledge and can help her, head on over and leave her a comment or e-mail me! We’d both really appreciate the help!
Sadly, I couldn’t stay very long because I had to rush home to get ready for tonight. Luckily, we have Sex &The City movie & vino plans. Can’t wait! I still haven’t seen the first one and the second one is already set to come next month!
Once I got dressed we headed out..
Reading Between the Wines is hosted by the Adult Literacy League.
Their were lots of opportunities to donate to the cause(helping adults get the reading and literacy education they need) through bidding as well as raffles.

We bid on a few things but didn’t win which is sort of a bummer, but then again sort of not. We’re on a tight budget!

We met up with some of Adam’s coworkers including Josh, who apparently reads the blog along with a few of his other coworkers. HI GUYS!

Their were lots of tables set-up from a few restaurants around Orlando including a new one opening soon called Crave!

We tried some crostini with pesto shrimp and tomatoes as well as a shrimp ceviche with tortilla chips. Delicious!

Also some sushi from Shin.

We also sipped a bunch of different wines throughout the night. Don’t worry, the tastings were small!

My favorite of the night was La Crema’s pinot noir!

We tried some other food..

..and continued to enter auctions!
We tried to win two passes to rock climbing.

Oh..and girls..R. Pat was there..

I didn’t bid on him though.
Houlihans was our last stop for dinner foods.
A bruschetta, chicken skewer in a lime and yogurt sauce, and a wheat roll.

Check this cake out..

Okay, that wasn’t real cake. But this was…

Yum! I love simple cake with yummy fondant..they were out of the decadent stuff but I gladly took this!

Then we saw some authors who gave a talk and read from their latest novels..

Bob Morris who just wrote Baja Florida.

As well as Connie May Fower whose latest novel is “How Clarissa Burden Learned To Fly“.

It was very interesting to hear how reading and books impacted them. Did you know that if you don’t read to your child at least 20 minutes a night from the time they sit-up to the time they enter kindergarten their chances are severely diminished in them being successful? That’s a scary statistic but a good one to be aware of for future references!
Has reading impacted you in some way? Reading to me is a chance to get imaginative and go to other places. I love getting sucked into a story and caring about the characters. I love reading so much!
News/Announcements:
If you are in the central Florida area or in Florida at all right now please check out Lauren’s Kids. It’s an amazing organization and Lauren is in the process of walking 500 miles to Tallahassee to raise awareness to help prevent sexual abuse against children. As a victim herself, she is fighting to educate others. I saw her story on the news back home and it was incredible. She went through hell and back and is now fighting for this cause. If you are in Orlando and want to get involved she will be around town tomorrow. Check out her site for more info. Also, check out my friend Becka’s blog for a better explanation of Lauren’s story and why we should get involved! Thank you!
sounds like a wonderful night! i wish i knew more about HTML and everything but sorry…no go

Oooh looks like a run event! Glad you had a good time! I love reading too! I recently read Time Traveler’s Wife and when I was finished I sobbed so hard. Partly because of the ending but partly because I had invested so muchin the characters and it was over. Is that sad? Haha
What’s your favorite book?
